About Renee Dechert

A lifelong baseball fan, she’s been covering the Colorado Rockies since 2017.

About Renee Dechert

Renee Dechert doesn’t remember a time when she didn’t watch baseball. She started with the Cincinnati Reds “Big Red Machine” before moving through a number of teams largely based on access in the before-streaming era (e.g., the Boston Red Sox, the Chicago White Sox, and the Texas Rangers).

When working on her doctorate at Texas A&M, she became an avid fan of college baseball, spending afternoons at Olsen Field, grading papers, and eating an occasional hot dog.

In 1993, however, when Colorado finally got a team, she found a place to ground her MLB fandom and has been following the Colorado Rockies since.

Her evolution as a fan took another step in 2017 when she began contributing to Purple Row as a features writer. Her focus soon expanded into running social media for the team and eventually writing analysis. In addition to writing for Purple Row, she has also written articles for Pitcher List, Just Baseball, SB Nation, and other baseball-related sites.

Renee received a press credential in 2022 and began interviewing players and coaches in addition to working out of the press box.

In addition, she also has a newsletter, Rockies Pitch, which provides her with another platform for Rockies analysis.

Renee has a doctorate and works as a professor of English at a community college in Wyoming. During her career, Renee’s writing interests have been varied: Americana music; book and music reviews; television shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Peaky Blinders; and, generally, just whatever happens to be interesting.
